This is what Laforet had to say about it...

"I was the DP for this commercial for Famous Footwear alongside director Loni Peristere and the incredible folks at Zoic Studios in LA. This is the 60 second cut. The spot was shot over two nights in Vancouver, Canada with a Phantom HD Gold, at 600 frames per second, with Cooke S4 primes at f 2.0 with 250,000 Watts of light. Motion control was used to do multiple shots with different focus points. The shutter angle was 360º (359º to be exact) at 2048X1080 and the iso was set to 640 if I remember correctly. This shoot was a blast and I owe the camera team and G&E a tremendous thanks - especially to the incredible focus puller Cam Hayduk and my buddy and gaffer Mark Lindsay. Check out my blog for behind the scenes footage of this project."

Here is the final commercial...

There are a few videos out there at the moment that show some amazing tracked time-lapse shots. Companies like Kessler Crane make electronic rigs that will do it all for you and they are super sweet.. they are however very expensive!

So it got me thinking... How can you get the same effect but without spending the big bucks? Whilst visiting Ikea not long ago I picked up one of their paper tape measures. Whilst admiring the simplicity in Ikea strategy in giving these out I also thought "mmm this looks like it would be a good fit down the middle of my Glidetrack"

With that we quickly finished up our purchases and rushed home to find... yes! it was a perfect fit. The metal plate which attaches to the ball head passed over the tape measure allowing you to accurately see its position millimetre by millimetre.

So the plan was simple. Move the camera a millimetre and take a picture. repeat.
